Position Summary:  Provides direct case work services to clients guided by agency policies and programs.  This position is an at-will employment position.

Reports to:   Child Welfare Supervisor


  • An advanced degree in social work or a comparable human service field; or a bachelor's degree in social work or a comparable human service field with two years of related experience.
  • Prior experience in the field of social work is desirable, foster care experience is desired, but not necessary for the right candidate.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with people with problems and the capacity to learn and grow in this position.
  • Ability to work within an organizational structure, to relate constructively to colleagues and community and to use professional guidance and supervision.
  • Ability to handle confidential material.
  • Ability to forge partnerships with persons/families served so as to be able to address any issues and problems that may be faced
  • Ability to set limits and maintain helping role of the practitioner and to intervene appropriately to meet the needs of person/family served
  • Ability to be sensitive and understanding of minorities cultural and lifestyle differences


Job Functions (Expectations/Responsibilities):

  • Carries a selected caseload representative of problem situations found within the functions of the agency's programs.
  • Performs a variety of casework and group work duties, including gathering, analyzing and evaluating data related to cases and/or the program within which they function.
  • Formulates and recommends case plans and goals and frequently reviews progress with Supervisor.
  • Implements case plan and is responsible for analyzing and evaluating progress in conjunction with Supervisor.
  • Interprets agency policy and services to clients, other agencies and community groups, as required.
  • Demonstrates interest in professional growth activities such as agency and professional seminars and conferences, reading of professional materials and other professional opportunities to increase knowledge and skills.
  • Prepares reports or forms necessary to satisfy agency's needs for accountability (i.e., recording, statistics, etc.)
  • Accepts increasing responsibility commensurate with worker's level of skills and experience.
  • Participate in agency seminars, workshops and community education activities, as needed.
  • Will also be expected to perform other duties and functions as assigned from time to time.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move 45 pounds
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, push, pull, bend, stoop, crouch, reach and climb stairs
  • Vision, hearing and voice ability to effectively communicate in quiet and noisy environments
  • Ability to tolerate outdoor conditions
